After 3 nights in North Luangwa, you start returning back south by charter flight to Waka Waka Airstrip where your 4-night stay in Luambe will begin. Now, you will have ample time to take in new surroundings, and diverse wildlife and experience the astonishing birdlife that is being discovered in this newly revived National Park. Luambe National Park offers a Luangwa Valley experience reminiscent of the early days in the Valley – remote and wild!
You will have three full days to explore Luambe National Park. Below is the sample daily program;
Your morning: (5:00am – 9:30am)
Wake up to various birdcalls and the grunting hippo as they welcome a new day in the beautiful Luangwa Valley while enjoying a quick coffee with biscuits. Then, in the early mornings, with the Luambe guides or ZCP, go on an animal monitoring drive (when available). Anti-poaching treks, coffee with the carmine bee-eaters, or strolling the camera trap circuit to check on the night's activity are all fantastic morning activities!
Midday Siesta (11 am – 2 pm)
This is your time to unwind! Relax in your tent or take out your binoculars to observe the wildlife from the shade of a tree. Spend time in the main area with our crew to learn more about the project's history, look at what was caught on video traps, or update the leopard family tree. Before heading out on your late afternoon game drive, enjoy a delicious lunch at the camp.
Late afternoon / early evening (3 pm – 8 pm)
Late afternoons are ideal for walking the Luangwa River while listening to hippos and finishing with sundowners OR visiting Chitingulu village to learn about living in the communities that surround national parks. Your evening will be spent resting in camp with a sundowner in hand, enjoying the rosy sunsets over the river while listening to the hippo's antics, followed by a delicious three-course lunch in the dining room. For those interested in the smaller, more peculiar species of Luambe, it's a perfect opportunity to listen to and record bat activity in camp after dinner!
