Tarabuco
Copacabana
Arrival at Santa Cruz airport and
connection to the flight to Sucre. Welcome in Sucre and start of the city tour.
We will discover the capital of Bolivia, considered one of the most beautiful
cities in Latin America, now declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will
visit the Asur Museum, which has 12 rooms entirely equipped for the exhibition
of beautiful traditional textiles from the region. We will stroll through the
Recoleta viewpoint to enjoy a beautiful view of the city, and we will also
visit the Cathedral, the Prefecture, the House of Liberty, and finally the
central market.
We will depart in the morning for Tarabuco,
known in earlier times as a warrior town (the people of Tarabuco were among the
first to defeat the Spanish crown in 1816).
Today, the town is known for the beautiful textiles sold at the Sunday market, where bartering is still practiced. We will visit the Tarabuco museum, where we will learn more about the art of local weaving, which is an intrinsic part of the region's culture.
*The Tarabuco
market is only held on Sundays. *
We depart from Sucre and head to the
“Imperial City of Carlos V”: Potosí, a city that has stood out for centuries
and still has much to offer tourists today. We will visit the emblematic Casa
de la Moneda (Mint), where natives and slaves from Africa minted silver coins
during Spanish rule. Then, we will stroll through the main square and the
surrounding streets to admire the facades of the churches of San Lorenzo and
San Francisco. At the end of the tour, we will head to Uyuni.
We depart from Uyuni to the salt flats in a
4×4 vehicle. We begin our adventure with a stop at the Train Cemetery, an
unusual landscape of disused locomotives. We continue to the town of Colchani,
where salt is processed using traditional methods, and visit a salt processing
plant. We enter the Salar de Uyuni and make a stop at Incahuasi Island. From
its summit, surrounded by giant cacti, we can appreciate the surprising expanse
of the salt sea and see the majestic Tunupa volcano. We then enjoy lunch in the
middle of the salt flat. We visit the Playa Blanca hotel-museum, the Dakar
monument, and the Plaza de las Banderas. Then we will watch the sunset in the
middle of the salt flat while enjoying an aperitif. Finally, we will leave the
salt flat and head to the village of Colcha K to spend the night.
We leave the salt flats behind to visit the
high-altitude lakes: Laguna Honda, Laguna Ramadita, and Laguna Hedionda. Each
one is incredibly beautiful. We will also visit a different ecosystem: the
Siloli Desert, one of the driest in the world, where the famous Stone Tree is
located. Finally, we will arrive at Laguna Colorada, named for its reddish
color, where Andean flamingos live. It will be a journey where the desert and
the lagoons will convey their peace and tranquility, finding ourselves in the
middle of nowhere.
Early in the morning, we will visit the
geysers, wells of water that boil underground, where we will feel like we are
on another planet. Next, we will head to the hot springs, where we will enjoy a
relaxing bath surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Then we will continue to Laguna Verde,
whose waters have a magical appearance. Afterwards, we will stop at the iconic
Dalí Desert, named for the interesting colors of its mountains that resemble
the paintings of the master.
Arrival at the La Paz terminal and transfer
to the hotel. We will visit different areas of the city of La Paz,
such as Plaza Murillo, the Government
Palace, the Legislative Palace, and the Metropolitan Cathedral. Then we will
take the cable car and enjoy a fantastic view of the city built between
mountains. Afterwards, we will stroll through the traditional sector, where the
popular Calle de las Brujas (Street of Witches) is located, an area where
amulets, objects, and plants are sold to ward off evil spirits and perform
rituals of the Andean worldview.
We will end the tour with a visit to the
Valley of the Moon, a beautiful place located near the city of La Paz where
erosion has, over many years, formed wonderful rock formations that give us the
feeling of being in a real lunar landscape.
We will leave La Paz and head to
Copacabana. Upon arrival, we will go to the port, where we will board a boat to
take us to Isla del Sol. Our lunch will be an Andean buffet called “aphtapi,”
made with typical products from the region. Then we will head to the ruins of
the Pilkokaina Palace, also called the Temple of the Sun, which is an important
archaeological site of Inca origin. We will continue to the Yumani steps where
we will find the Fountain of Life or Fountain of Youth, so called because its
waters are believed to have medicinal properties. The place has a mystical
atmosphere that transports us to times past when man was deeply connected to
Mother Earth.
After breakfast, we will say goodbye to the peaceful atmosphere of Isla del Sol and board a boat back to Copacabana, enjoying the beautiful views of Lake Titicaca along the way. Once in Copacabana, we will visit the impressive Great Cathedral, one of the most important religious sites in Bolivia. This sanctuary is home to the famous Virgen Morena, a sacred image carved with indigenous features that is deeply venerated not only by Bolivians but also by pilgrims from neighboring countries who come to ask for blessings and protection. After the visit, we will enjoy lunch in the town before beginning our journey back to the vibrant city of La Paz, surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of the Altiplano.
Today marks the end of your incredible journey through Bolivia. After breakfast at the hotel, and depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to the International Airport for your departure flight. Take with you unforgettable memories of Bolivia’s breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cultures, and warm hospitality—from the colonial charm of Sucre and the surreal beauty of the Uyuni Salt Flats to the mystical atmosphere of Lake Titicaca. We hope this experience has left you with lasting impressions and wonderful stories to share.
¡Buen viaje y hasta pronto!
