Day 1

We extend a warm welcome to Ecuador, and we couldn't be more excited to have you here!

Once you arrive at Mariscal Sucre International Airport, your driver will be waiting for you holding a sign with your name to take you to your private transportation. Your journey begins with a sense of relaxation and anticipation as you embark on a scenic 45-minute drive into the enchanting city of Quito. Along the way, the picturesque landscapes will provide a delightful backdrop as you receive a comprehensive overview of the itinerary for your upcoming adventures, setting the stage for a truly memorable experience.

Upon your arrival and check-in at your hotel, we recommend taking some time to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Quito and explore its captivating cultural offerings. Situated at an astonishing elevation of 9,350 feet (2,850 meters), Quito proudly stands among the highest cities in the world, and its breathtaking views are sure to leave you in awe.

Day 2

Our journey takes us along the iconic Pan-American Highway, heading north to the Quitsato solar clock. This culturally significant site, constructed in pre-Hispanic times, was designed to track the solstices and equinoxes. It's also the very spot where the equator line intersects, marking it as the literal center of the world.

To truly savor the local flavors, we make a delightful pit stop for a cup of Ecuadorian coffee or rich chocolate, accompanied by delectable biscuits - oven-baked treasures bursting with unmatched flavor. What's even more special is that we'll have the chance to witness the entire baking process.
­
Our next destination is the vibrant town of Otavalo. Just a short drive away, we pause at a scenic viewpoint overlooking the breathtaking San Pablo Lake, with the majestic Mount Imbabura standing tall in the background. Soon after, we'll arrive at South America's largest and most renowned indigenous handicraft market (open every day of the week).

Take a leisurely stroll around La Plaza de los Ponchos, with approximately 2 hours to explore and shop for unique treasures. We then head to Cotacachi, known for its craft market specializing in high-quality leather products. You'll have about 45 minutes to peruse the charming shops.

Our final stop takes us to the stunning Cuicocha Lagoon, nestled at 3068m (10,065.62 ft) within an active volcanic crater, complete with picturesque islets or domes, a natural wonder you won't want to miss.

Day 3

Fuel up with a hearty breakfast at your hotel, setting the tone for a day of exploration. You'll be picked up and whisked away to the captivating Historic Center of Quito, where every cobblestone, plaza, and colonial structure tells tales of centuries gone by. This cherished district earned its UNESCO Cultural Heritage of Humanity designation in 1978, and it's not hard to see why.

Our adventure begins with a visit to the awe-inspiring Basilica, a neo-Gothic masterpiece. Its stained glass windows come alive with vibrant floral scenes, while playful gargoyles pay homage to the country's rich wildlife. Climb the towers for a sweeping view that will surely steal your breath away. Next, step into the grandeur of the San Francisco convent, a sprawling testament to history, and be captivated by the opulent baroque splendor of La Compañía church, where various artistic styles seamlessly blend within gold-adorned interiors.

The afternoon is free to explore the city on your own.

Day 4

You will start your day at 06:00 AM, you will go head to Cotopaxi National Park. You will visit Lake Limpiopungo, located in the highlands of the park. Here, you will have a spectacular view of Cotopaxi Volcano's gigantic cone. Lake Limpiopungo offers a variety of birds, and occasionally even wild horses. A short walk around the lake will allow you to admire the Andean plant and animal life along the way.

Then, you will visit another highlight: Quilotoa Lagoon. This 2-mile (3 km) wide crater lake is filled with 820 feet (250 m) of mineral-rich green water. Hike along the lake's outer rim, enjoying the views from three lava domes, or follow a path to the lake itself. Hiking in the area, especially uphill, can be challenging, so consider renting a mule for some help along the way. After exploring the lake, it's time to travel south to Baños de Agua Santa, a city on the edge of the Amazonian Basin known for its hot springs and nearby waterfalls.

Day 5

Today, you have the freedom to choose your next adventure:

OPTION 1: Baños through the Waterfall Route
­
Start your day by following the picturesque Route of the Waterfalls, beginning at the Agoyan dam. You'll make your way to the stunning Manto de la Novia Waterfall, where you'll have the chance to hop on the Tarabita (a cable car) for a ride across the Rio Patate to explore the waterfall on the other side. As you journey on, you'll reach the Mirador de San Jorge viewpoint before arriving at the awe-inspiring Pailón del Diablo, a waterfall that stands tall at around 100 meters. A leisurely 30-minute stroll through a tropical mountain forest will take you to the base of this natural wonder, followed by a relaxed 45-60 minute walk back up. Afterward, you'll return to Baños for a leisurely afternoon on your own terms.

OPTION 2: Amazon Tour

Embark on an unforgettable adventure that begins at an animal rescue center, where you'll learn about local wildlife rehabilitation. Next, explore a private reserve to gain insights into indigenous life and medicinal plants, guided by knowledgeable locals. The journey continues with a hike through lush jungle trails leading to a stunning waterfall, perfect for a refreshing dip. Conclude your adventure at the Indichuris lookout, offering panoramic views of the expansive jungle canopy, capturing the essence of nature's beauty and the richness of cultural heritage.

Enjoy a free day in Baños de Agua Santa, a paradise for adventure and relaxation. Soak in the rejuvenating hot springs, explore the vibrant town, or hike to stunning waterfalls. Embark on an exhilarating bike ride along the famous Ruta de las Cascadas, and try your hand at canyoning, zip-lining, or bungee jumping for an adrenaline rush. Experience the thrill of white-water rafting, take a scenic cable car ride, or visit the Swing at the End of the World for breathtaking views. With its diverse activities set against a backdrop of lush landscapes, Baños offers something for every traveler.

Day 7

In the early hours of the morning, your journey commences as you head back to the Panamerican Highway and then continue southward to the indigenous market of Guamote. This market stands out as one of the most vibrant and colorful in the country, providing a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the ways of life, clothing, traditions, and economy of the local Kichua community. As you explore the bustling streets of this charming village, you'll encounter an array of products and animals that make this market a true cultural gem.

As you press on, you'll enter the Sangay National Park, a UNESCO Natural Heritage of Humanity site. Here, you'll embark on a leisurely hike spanning approximately 3 kilometers, leading you to one of the Ozogoche lakes within this remarkable system of over 45 lagoons. Along the way, keep an eye out for the local wildlife, including the emblematic cucuvies bird, as well as the distinctive flora of the highlands, such as Stipu Ichu (paramo grass), Cortaderia, and bromeliads. From the vantage points, soak in the untamed beauty of the surrounding mountains and the serene landscape. This ecosystem offers a perfect haven for tranquility, fresh air, and direct communion with nature.

Your day's journey culminates in Alausi. Here, you can unwind and relax in your hotel, reflecting on the enriching experiences and encounters with the natural world and local culture that have defined your adventure.

Day 8

Your first stop will be the viewpoint of the Devil's Nose and the Sibambe Train Station. Here, you'll have the opportunity to soak in breathtaking views and witness the remarkable engineering feat of the Devil's Nose train route.

Following this, you'll have the chance to partake in a culinary experience by enjoying lunch prepared by a local Kañari family (please note that lunch is not included). This is an opportunity to savor authentic flavors and immerse yourself in the local culture. Additionally, you'll be invited to share in a ritual ceremony with the family, offering a glimpse into the ancient traditions of the Kañari people, adding depth to your cultural exploration.

Continuing with your tour, you'll arrive at the Ingapirca Ruins, a site of great historical significance and cultural heritage. This site is a crucial part of the Inca Road system known as "Capac Ñan." As you explore the grounds, you'll encounter various architectural units, including the Temple of the Sun, Pilaloma, La Condamine, La Vaguada, Ingachungana, the Face of the Inca, the Turtle, the Intihuayco, and the Stairway of the Ravine. Additionally, you'll visit the Site Museum, which houses a collection of archaeological artifacts unearthed during the ongoing restoration of the site.

Finally, your journey will lead you to the charming city of Cuenca.

Following a satisfying breakfast, your exploration of the captivating city of Cuenca commences. The journey begins at the Pumapungo Museum, an archaeological museum situated on the historic Inca site of Pumapungo. Here, you'll delve into the rich history and heritage of the region, gaining insights into its ancient past.

Next, embark on a stroll through the artisan neighborhoods, each with colonial origins that add charm and character to the city. As you wander through the central markets, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture and perhaps even discover unique artisanal treasures.

Continuing your cultural journey, you'll visit museums such as the Modern Art Museum, which showcases the contemporary artistic expressions of the region. The tour also includes a visit to the majestic cathedral, an architectural masterpiece that stands as a testament to the city's rich history and faith.

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, a scenic 40-minute drive will transport you to the magnificent Cajas National Park, nestled to the west of Cuenca. Your adventure begins with a hike to Laguna "La Toreadora," offering the perfect vantage point to observe the park's most significant lake complex. Here, you'll be surrounded by the pristine natural beauty of the highlands.

Following your visit to the Laguna, you'll embark on a trek that spans up to two and a half hours, allowing you to explore the highlands and its unique wetland moors. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to learn about the diverse flora and fauna that thrive in this remarkable ecosystem, including the famous Polylepis trees, which are emblematic of the region.

In the afternoon, your journey continues as you reach a typical coastal agroecological farm. Here, you'll have the chance to enjoy lunch (please note that lunch is not included) and immerse yourself in the world of cocoa. Explore the cocoa plantations, gain insights into the harvesting and drying processes, and savor the rich flavors of chocolate through a tasting experience. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to visit a chocolate workshop, where you can learn the art of crafting chocolate bars.

Finally, after a brief drive of approximately one hour, you'll arrive in the vibrant city of Guayaquil to pick up passengers. From there, you'll embark on the last leg of this eventful day, making your way to Montañita.

In the morning, you'll set out for the small port to commence your captivating journey to Isla de la Plata, aptly named the "Silver Island." This natural haven is a paradise for seabirds, where species such as blue-footed boobies, red-footed boobies, Nazca boobies, frigate birds, and cuckoos thrive in abundance.

Your adventure on the island kicks off with a 2-hour guided walk along scenic trails. Here, you'll delve into the captivating world of flora and fauna while uncovering the island's rich ancestral history and culture, which includes intriguing tales of pirates. As you explore, you'll encounter stunning landscapes, from dramatic cliffs to pristine small beaches and secluded bays.

The highlight of your visit to Isla de la Plata is the opportunity to snorkel in the crystal-clear waters surrounding the island, which are home to a remarkable diversity of marine life. Dive in and swim alongside colorful fish, graceful sea turtles, playful dolphins, majestic manta rays, and more. Depending on the time of year (June to September), you might even have the chance to spot humpback whales gracefully navigating the waters.

Your journey continues as you transfer to Guayaquil, where a day of exploration awaits. The tour begins with a visit to Seminario Park, a popular meeting spot for young Ecuadorian couples. This charming park is also renowned for its resident land iguanas, which can often be seen basking in the trees, soaking up the sun.

Your next stop is the magnificent Cathedral, an architectural gem built in the classical Gothic style. From there, you'll proceed to Guayaquil's famous tree-lined waterfront promenade, "El Malecón," which gracefully runs alongside the majestic Guayas River.

Your tour will then take you to the historic local government buildings, starting with the "Palacio Municipal" and continuing to the "Palacio de Gobernación" (the Government Palace). Just across from this palace stands the Moorish clock tower, "La Torre Morisca," constructed in 1843. For those willing to climb its steep stairs, rewarding views of the city await from its summit.

Your next stop is La Rotonda, a historic monument in the form of a statue that commemorates the meeting between Simon Bolivar and Jose San Martin in 1822, a pivotal moment in South American history.
