On the second day, travel across the salt flats and dramatic volcanic terrain toward Erta Ale, Ethiopia's most famous active volcano. After reaching the base camp, begin a late afternoon hike to the summit. Afar
Early in the morning, depart from Mekelle and drive through the dramatic landscapes of the Afar Region toward Erta Ale Volcano. Along the way, pass small Afar villages, lava fields, and expansive desert scenery while learning about the region's unique geology and culture.
Arrive at the base camp in the late afternoon. After an early dinner, begin the trek to the summit of Erta Ale Volcano. Witness the glowing lava lake and admire the spectacular volcanic activity under the night sky.

After breakfast, descend from the volcano and continue to the colorful geothermal area of Dallol. Explore one of the world's most unusual landscapes, featuring vibrant mineral terraces, sulfur springs, bubbling pools, and salt formations created by volcanic activity.
Continue across the extensive salt flats where local Afar workers harvest salt using traditional methods. Observe camel caravans carrying salt blocks across the desert, a centuries-old trading tradition.
Drive to Hamed Ela for an overnight stay.
