Tour Overview

Discover the untouched magic of the Amazon as you journey deep into Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, staying at an exclusive eco-lodge nestled in the heart of this pristine wilderness. Glide silently through winding rivers and hidden lagoons in a killa de remo, a traditional canoe hand-carved from chuncho wood for an eco-friendly, immersive experience unlike any other. With no engine noise to disturb the jungle’s rhythm, you’ll get up close with playful monkeys, vibrant birds, and even the elusive pink river dolphins.  This is the Amazon as it was meant to be explored: raw, wild, and breathtakingly real.

Itinerary

Day 1

Your journey begins in Lago Agrio, where you'll board private transportation to the Aguarico River. Here, you'll embark on a thrilling 3-hour motorized canoe ride deep into Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, keeping your eyes peeled for the iconic pink river dolphins surfacing alongside your boat. As you navigate the winding waterways, your naturalist guide will point out exotic birds and explain the rainforest ecosystem. Arriving at the eco-lodge in the afternoon, you'll settle into your comfortable cabin before enjoying a delicious dinner. Cap off your first day with an optional night walk through the jungle, where your guide will help you spot nocturnal creatures.

Day 2

Rise before dawn for one of the Amazon's most spectacular wildlife shows - the parrot clay licks. Travel by motorized canoe to "El Saladero," where hundreds of colorful parrots and parakeets gather to feed on mineral-rich clay. Enjoy breakfast in this incredible natural setting before switching to the traditional killa de remo (hand-carved wooden canoe) for a silent paddle through mysterious blackwater channels. Glide peacefully through flooded forests where you might spot monkeys, toucans, and giant otters. After lunch back at the lodge, embark on a 3-hour jungle hike where your indigenous guide will demonstrate how local communities use plants for medicine, food, and tools. Back to the lodge, an optional night activity is available afterward.

Day 3

Today begins with a magical sunrise paddle in your killa de remo, the only sounds being the dip of your paddle and the awakening jungle chorus. Visit a Kichwa family's farm to harvest yuca and learn the ancient process of making casabe (cassava bread), a staple food of Amazonian communities. After lunch, return to the lodge to rest before the afternoon's highlight - climbing a 30-meter observation tower built around a massive ceibo tree. From this breathtaking vantage point, watch toucans and macaws fly at eye level as the sun sets over the rainforest canopy. After dinner, embark on a thrilling night canoe ride to spot caimans.

Day 4

On your final morning, choose between a peaceful canoe ride or forest walk to say goodbye to the Amazon at its most vibrant, with birds singing, monkeys calling, and the jungle coming alive with dawn's first light. After breakfast, pack your memories (and hopefully lots of photos!) for the return journey to Lago Agrio, arriving by early afternoon with enough time to connect to your next destination.
