Before deciding to have it renovated, the church was basically abandoned and in very bad shape, with basically no roof, and with damaged walls by rain and snow. The purpose of the restoration was to keep as many original elements as possible, so the oak was processed to improve its durability but the roof had to be rebuilt from scratch. In 2009, the church arrived in Chisinau, and renovation works lasted for about two years when in 201 1 it was inaugurated for visitors and Christians.

The originality of Orheiul Vechi is due to the defile of the Raut river, dug under the form of a canyon in the limestone layers of the former Sarmatia sea, about 14 million years ago.
