Itinerary

Day 1

Our journey begins with a scenic 2.5-hour drive from Gondar to Michibiny, with a brief stop at the Simien Mountains National Park headquarters to arrange permits. From Michibiny, we start an easy 2–3-hour acclimatization hike to Sankaber, passing through beautiful highland scenery. This gentle introduction helps adjust to the altitude. Overnight Simein lodge

Day 2

Today's 12 km hike (5-6 hours) takes us through diverse landscapes, including highland grasslands, heather forests, and cultivated fields. We follow the dramatic escarpment, enjoying breathtaking views and encountering large groups of Gelada baboons. A highlight is Jinbar Falls, where the waterfall plunges hundreds of meters into the abyss. As we near Gich village, we experience an authentic Ethiopian coffee ceremony before reaching our campsite. Overnight Simein lodge

Day 3

One of the most spectacular days of the trek, covering 12 km in 7-8 hours. A short detour to Imet Gogo (3925m) rewards us with the best panoramic views of the Simien Mountains. We pass through a landscape dotted with giant lobelias and may spot the majestic lammergeyer and endemic thick-billed raven. Along the way, we ascend Inataye (4070m) before descending into a deep valley leading to Chennek, an excellent spot to see the rare Walia ibex. Overnight Simein lodge

Day 4

Today is the most challenging day of the trek, covering 18 km in approximately 8 hours. We ascend to Bwahit Pass (4200m) with an option to summit Bwahit Peak (4430m), Ethiopia’s second-highest peak. From here, we may catch our first glimpse of Ras Dashen. We then descend into the Mesheha River valley (2800m) before reaching Ambiko. This area is a great place to spot the elusive Ethiopian wolf. After a well-earned meal by the campfire, we rest early in preparation for tomorrow’s summit. Overnight Simein lodge

Day 5

Today, we conquer the highest peak in Ethiopia! The challenging 6-hour, 10 km ascent takes us to the summit of Ras Dashen (4533m). While the peak itself offers more of an achievement than the best views, standing atop the "Roof of Ethiopia" is an unforgettable moment. After celebrating our success, we begin the 4-hour descent back to Ambiko. Overnight Simein lodge

Day 6

On our final day, we hike to Chiro Leba, the nearest point accessible by vehicle. From here, we take a 5-hour drive back to Gondar, marking the end of an incredible adventure in the Simien Mountains. Later, you will fly to Addis Ababa up on your arrival you will have a farewell Dinner and ready for your departure
