Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by our guide-driver who will provide an overview of Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. After an early breakfast, we will depart for the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary, making stops for bird watching to spot some of the region's rare species. Once we arrive at Zziwa, we'll take a rest at the lodge.
As the day cools, you'll embark on a rhino trek, spending approximately two hours observing the rhinos in their guarded yet wild habitat. This experience offers a rare chance to be in close proximity to these majestic creatures and support their rewilding in Uganda. Following the trek, a birding walk at dusk awaits you. The sanctuary is home to over 300 species across woodland, savannah, and wetland habitats, promising a fulfilling experience. To conclude the day, dinner will be served amidst the tranquil surroundings of the lodge.
An early start to the day beckons as we venture into the sanctuary's wetlands, both on foot and by canoe, in pursuit of the elusive shoebill and other aquatic species native to the Zziwa wetland.
The likelihood of encountering these remarkable birds is high, and we anticipate dedicating ample time to observe them. In the late afternoon, a warm lunch awaits at the lodge before we proceed to Masindi to check into your hotel for the evening.
Set off early through the dense forest to the renowned "Royal Mile," where our expert guides will assist you in spotting various forest bird species such as hornbills, kingfishers, rollers, woodpeckers, barbets, spinetails, sunbirds, and many more. We will then proceed along the picturesque route near Lake Albert to your lodge, arriving in time for lunch.
You'll have the choice of a guided birding walk around the lodge's grounds and/or a brief evening birding session. Located on the banks of the Nile and nestled in woodland next to farmland, your lodge is a haven for numerous bird species, including flycatchers, weavers, sunbirds, kingfishers, kestrels, owls, hornbills, and others.
Your scheduled boat will pick you up from the front of the lodge just after dawn, and you'll head downstream to the river's "delta" in search of the elusive shoebill. Despite the challenge posed by their expansive habitat, the odds of spotting them are still favorable, and you're likely to encounter much more on the journey. You'll be back at the lodge for lunch, with the afternoon free to explore or take another short game drive in the evening.
Wake up early and enjoy a full breakfast before departing for Paraa, where you'll cross the Nile for a morning game drive. The quest is to spot lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hyenas, hartebeests, and more.
Expect to spend about four hours exploring the savannah, riverine forests, and marshlands in the northern part of Murchison Falls National Park before returning to your accommodation. Post-lunch at your lodge, embark on the scheduled cruise to Murchison Falls, where you'll see a variety of waterbirds. Afterwards, hike to the top of the falls to meet your driver, who will take you back to your lodge for dinner.
We will rise early to transfer from the park to Entebbe, where we'll stay at the Airport View Hotel. Our breakfast is scheduled for around 7:30 am, followed by a 3-4 hour journey. Upon arrival, we can unwind and appreciate the shorebirds from our lodge as we savor our meals.
We will rise early based on our flight schedule. The Entebbe Botanical Gardens promise a splendid birdwatching experience, where we may spot the orange weaver among other species. As our journey concludes, our guide will assist with the transfer to the airport a few hours before our departure from Uganda.
