The program visits Santa Cruz and Isabela, some
of the most biodiverse and geologically varied islands, and has a special focus
on Floreana Island. As the smallest of the four inhabited islands, Floreana is
home to around 50 families and boasts a rich history that began with its
colonization by Ecuadorians in 1832. The island’s intriguing past includes the
arrival of Norwegian migrants and the mysterious tale of an eccentric Austrian
Baroness in the 1930s, whose tragic and enigmatic story has captivated audiences
worldwide.

Upon
arrival, you will be transferred to Santa Cruz Island, the most populous and
dynamic island in the Galápagos archipelago.
Our route
will take you through the island’s highlands, an area with a unique climate and
the natural home of the iconic Giant Tortoises. These impressive animals can be
seen moving freely in their natural environment. The nearby ranches offer the
perfect place to observe them and enjoy a freshly prepared meal. You will also
have the chance to explore ancient lava tunnels, formed thousands of years ago,
which reveal the volcanic history and ecology of the islands.
A visit to
the Santa Trinidad Distillery offers a wonderful introduction to the artisanal
craftsmanship of the islands. This approximately 40-minute experience provides
insights into the distillation process of sugar cane used to create premium
rum, as well as the story behind the distillery's beginnings. You'll also have
the opportunity to see examples of local crops such as sugar cane, cacao, and
coffee. A highlight of the visit is the
chance to taste the distillery’s two signature rums, aged 2 and 9 years. Before
departing, guests can browse a small shop featuring locally made products and
souvenirs.
Following
the distillery visit, the journey continues to Puerto Ayora.

Tortuga Bay
is a beautiful white sand beach, located 45 minutes away from Puerto Ayora on
foot. Mangroves surround the outer edges of the small bay, while large colonies
of marine iguanas take shade and surf the waves, and white-tipped reef sharks
swim under the bay’s turquoise crystalline waters. An ideal place for our
travelers to go swimming, snorkeling, or kayaking.
After the visit, you will have the afternoon free to enjoy Santa Cruz as they prefer. They can return to the beach, walk around town, visit some shops, or relax at the hotel.

The Charles
Darwin Research Station is a reservoir of information on habitats and local
conservation in the Galapagos Islands. The most striking attraction of this
station is its Tortoise Breeding Center, where all the existing sub-species of
the archipelago and observe their differences.
Transfer
via private speedboat to the island of Floreana, approx. 2 and a half hours
away from Santa Cruz.
Floreana is
the least populated of the four islands with human habitation, with only 100
inhabitants, though it was the first to be colonized in the 19th century.
Upon
arrival on the island, you will be taken to the highland area and a local farm
where they will learn more about people’s way of life on the island and how the
inhabitants use sustainable ways of staying self-sufficient on this isolated
island. Lunch will be served at the farm with farm-fresh ingredients, before
visiting a local lagoon where frigatebirds bathe.
The next
destination is “Asilo de la Paz”, a hill in the Highlands of Floreana, shrouded
in stories of pirates and the first inhabitants of the island. A Tortoise
Breeding Center is also located here, which is making great strides in
repopulating the island with its native sub-species of Giant Tortoise which
went extinct there in the 19th century.

“La
Loberia” is a white sand, rocky beach that provides the perfect setting to
observe large colonies of sea lions and marine iguanas. Swimming and snorkeling
in its bright turquoise waters offer a close-up experience with sea lions, sea
turtles, colorful reef fish, and even the occasional manta ray.
After a
delicious lunch, visitors will visit a unique mailing post, where they can send
postcards from a truly special and remote location.
After the
visit, you will have the afternoon free
to enjoy Floreana at their own pace. You can relax at the beach, explore the
surrounding area, or spend time at the hotel. It's also a perfect moment to
learn more about the island’s unique culture and the stories that make Floreana
such a special place.

In the
morning, we will take a private speedboat to Isabela Island; this trip takes
approximately 2 and a half hours.
Upon
arrival, the day begins with a visit to the Arnaldo Tupiza Tortoise Breeding
Center has been dedicated to conservation on the Galapagos Islands since 1997
and now houses five species of Giant Tortoise in order to protect and
reintroduce them into the wild.
Following a
path lined by mangroves, visitors will find a series of lagoons where flamingos
rest and feed. This walk is ideal for understanding Galapagos’ biodiversity,
and how local species have adapted to the Enchanted Islands’ harsh conditions.
In the
afternoon, we will visit the Tintoreras Islets, home to many species of unique
wildlife. Their calm and turquoise-colored waters make for the ideal
environment for the white-tipped reef sharks, known locally as “Tintoreras”, to
rest in large schools. The visit provides excellent opportunities for wildlife
observation and photography.

Located in the highlands of Isabela, the Sierra Negra Volcano is one of the island’s active volcanoes and happens to possess the second largest volcanic crater in the world. The volcano is host to many sulfur vents along its western slopes. You will be amazed by the beautiful alien landscape and learn more about the area’s geology and how the Galapagos Islands were formed.
After a morning exploring this fascinating environment, you will have the afternoon free to enjoy Isabela as you prefer. You can return to relax at the beach, ride a bicycle to the Wall of Tears, walk around town, visit some shops, or just rest at the hotel.

Early in the morning you will be transferred to the main dock to take a public speed boat to Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz) and then continue by road to the airport of Baltra. Flight to Ecuadorian mainland.
