This sacred city is where Christianity was declared the official religion of Georgia in 337 AD. Today, Mtskheta remains the spiritual heart of the country and the headquarters of the Georgian Orthodox Church. Its “Historical Monuments” were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
