The Annapurna base camp trek is probably the most popular trek in Nepal. This 14-day trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) begins at lower altitudes and heads through sub-tropical forests of bamboo, and rhododendron. The region is a nature lover’s dream, with more than 1226 flowering plants species, 102 mammals, 474 birds, 33 reptiles and 22 amphibians. You will have some of the best views along the trail of many familiar Himalayan peaks: Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), Mt. Annapurna I (8091m) Mt. Manaslu (8163 m), Mt. Annapurna II (7937 m.), Mt. Annapurna III (7555m), Mt. Annapurna IV (7525m), Mt. Annapurna south (7219m), Mt. Nilgiri (7041m), Mt. Machapuchare (6998m), Mt. Hiunchuli (6441m), Mt. Lamjung Himal (6986m) and Tukuche Peak (6920m).
From ABC you have views of Tharpu Chuli (5663m), Singu Chuli (6501m), Hiunchuli (6441m) and South Annapurna (7219m).
The Manang region is mostly inhabited by Gurung and Thakali people, with their distinctive stone houses and colorful costumes. Their Tibetan Buddhist faith is obvious all along the trail, with religious symbols and artifacts, such as Mani stones (stones inscribed in Sanskrit mantras), chortens (lama shrines/monuments), and the multi-colored Tibetan prayer flags. Buddhist monasteries (Gompas) are located throughout the region and echo their charming daily prayers by the resident monks and nuns.
The trail takes you to the famous Poon Hill (3210m) lookout with some of the most excellent mountain views in Nepal. From Poon Hill in the early morning hours you can view the snow capped mountains with the pure morning light reflecting off the peaks? You will take trails through lush green forests, cross rivers on suspension bridges, walk through terraced cultivated farmlands, observe yak grazing in these high alpine pastures and cross moraines, and glaciers that slowly descend from the mountains. You will also enjoy bathing in the hot therapeutic springs at Jhinu Danda. We first come to Machapuchare Base Camp before continuing on to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m), the highest altitude reached on the trek.
Trekking permits, meals and accommodation will be organized by Sherpa Expediton Teams. We have an excellent reputation in the trekking and climbing business and will ensure your safety and well being along the trail.

A representative from Sherpa Expedition Teams will be there to meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel. At your hotel, your guide will brief you about the trek. You will also be able to ask questions and will receive a trek itinerary.
At around 8.30 this morning a private vehicle and guide will show you the sights in Kathmandu that include several of the holiest temples for Hindus and Buddhists. The rest of the day is free for you to do some last-minute shopping around Thamel or lounge around a café and relax.
You will be picked up from your hotel at around 6.30 am and taken you to the tourist bus station. Pokhara is a well-known starting point for trekkers and is also famous for its Phewa Tal (lake). You will also have some fantastic views of Annapurna and Machapuchare (Fishtail) to the north, Dhaulagiri in the west and Lamjung Himal and Manaslu in the east. Staying in a hotel at lakeside (Phewa Tal) will also allow you to roam around the shops and visit the many cafes and bars. An ideal end to the day is to sit by the lake and watch the sunset over the mountains in the distance.
This morning we head by private vehicle to Nayapul and then are on the trail and will follow the Modi Khola (river) until we reach Birethanti Village (1,015m). We then head along the north bank of the Burundi Khola (river) before climbing up through the valley to Hille (1,495m). Very soon after Hille we come to Tikhedhunga (1,570m). The day’s trek is relatively easy going. Tonight we will stay at a guest house.
Today we begin with a steep climb up to the Magar village of Ulleri (2,070m) and then continue to climb higher through rhododendron and oak forests until reaching Banthanti (2,250m) and then Nangethanti (2,460m). After one more hour on the trail and we come to Ghorepani (2,840m) where we will stay at a guesthouse overnight.
To best appreciate the views from Poon Hill we will get up in the darkness - before sunrise. After around one hour of walking, we reach Poon Hill (3,210m) where the views are absolutely unimaginable. The mountains are glistening in the unspoiled light of the morning, reflecting a mixture of colors of the snow-capped peaks. After frantically snapping photos we will return to Ghorepani (2960m) for breakfast. From Ghorepani, we climb and along mountain ridges, through rhododendron and pine forests before coming to the village of Deurali (2,960m). We then descend and come to a cross-road at Banthanti and then continue on to Tadapani. We will stay overnight at a guest house.
This morning we head down a steep hill through rhododendron forests before arriving at a mostly Gurung village not far from Chomrong Village (2,140m) where we will stay at a guesthouse overnight.
Today we descend to the Chomrong Khola (river) and then head up to Khuldighar (2,380m) that was previously an Annapurna Conservation Area checkpoint. We then head down a steep rocky trail through bamboo, near the bottom of the gorge, while remaining on the west bank of the river. Again we follow the trail through bamboo and rhododendron forests until we come to the Himalayan Hotel. We will stay here overnight at a guest house.
Today we ascend to ABC via Hinko Cave, Deurali, and Machapuchare Base Camp before arriving at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC 4,130m). At this altitude, you will have clear and unimpeded views over the surrounding snow-capped peaks. This is definitely another opportunity to get your camera out! We will stay here at a guest house tonight.
Today we retrace our footsteps on our way back to Bamboo. We descend an amazing 1,700 meters to the banks of the Modi Khola (river) and then continue on to Bamboo (2,345m) where we will stay at a guest house tonight.
Today we again follow the same trail as we head back to Chomrong, first passing Khuldighar and then follow the trail through rhododendron and bamboo forests. There is a very sharp and steep descent to Chomrong and to Jhinu Danda where we can bath and relax in the therapeutic hot springs. We will stay here overnight at a guest house.
After leaving Jhinu Danda we follow the trail along the banks of the Modi Khola (river) for around 4.5 hours until we arrive at Birethanti. The trek today is considered by many trekkers to be the most enjoyable on the entire trail. It is more like a gentle walk than what we have previously encountered. From Nayapul we head by road back to Pokhara. After checking in at our hotel we will take a boat trip to Barahi Temple, located on a tiny island in the middle of Phewa Tal (lake). Sitting by the lake this evening will be a calming experience as you look back on your trekking experience as the sunsets.
Today we head by road back to Kathmandu with time on the way back to think about a list of places to visit next in Nepal. There are many options: a Chitwan jungle safari tour, plunging down the rapids on a rafting adventure, mountain biking, or a guided shopping tour of Kathmandu. You may decide that the mountains hold a certain appeal and will think about a far-off trek to near the Tibetan border or to Mt. Kanchenjunga. You will be taken back to your hotel after arriving at Kathmandu.
Today is most likely your last day in Nepal – for now anyway! A representative from Sherpa Expedition Teams will make sure you are at the airport at least three hours prior to your departure. We wish you a safe journey home and look forward to hearing from you again.
