The 16 day Annapurna Circuit Trek is the most popular trek in the Annapurna region. More than 50,000 trekkers complete this 160 plus trek that encircles the Annapurna massif.
The trek begins at Besisahar and follows the Marsyangdi River all the way to its source beyond the Annapurna region. We enter the Manang region and cross the well-known Thorong La Pass (5416m) and come out in the restricted Mustang Valley. This is an arid and rugged region.
One of the highlights of this trek is undoubtedly a trek up to Poon Hill, famous among trekkers as providing one of the finest viewpoints of the Annapurna Mountains and other massive peaks.
From here we then descend to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara, well known as a starting point for treks in this region. Its centre of attraction is “Lakeside” – Phewa Tal.
Throughout the trek you will be rewarded with some breathtaking views of the vast Himalayan Mountains. Some of the peaks you will see are: Mt. Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Lamjung Kailash, and Annapurna South, Tilitso, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Ri, Nilgiri South and other smaller snow-capped peaks.
On the trail you will pass porters, pack-horses and cross many streams and rivers – some by crossing suspension bridges. You will also pass several beautiful waterfalls and venture into numerous small villages often with unique cultural differences, such as Gurung, Sherpa, Magar and Thakali. This region is also rife with Tibetan Buddhist monasteries (Gompa) that echo prayers and chants from within.
The trail will also take you through rhododendron forests that in springtime are radiant with white, pink and red flowers.
You will have an opportunity to understand more about the Tibetan culture, traditions and influence on the villager’s daily lives.
Sherpa Expedition Teams will take care of all permits, meals and accommodation on the trek. All you need is to be of reasonable health – and of course have a fully-charged camera to snap some of the most beautiful mountain scenes found anywhere in the world.
