Begin
your day early with a hotel pick-up in Istanbul at approximately 04:00 AM,
where you will be transferred to the Istanbul Airport for your short
domestic flight to Izmir. Upon your arrival at Izmir Airport around 08:00
AM, you will be greeted by your professional local guide and your
unforgettable journey through Ephesus, one of the most important and
best-preserved ancient cities in the world, will begin.
Your
first stop will be the ancient city of Ephesus, founded in the 10th
century BC and later becoming one of the key cities of the Roman Empire in Asia
Minor. As you walk along the marble-paved streets, you’ll visit iconic
landmarks such as the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian,
the Baths of Scholastica, the Great Theatre, and many other
beautifully preserved ruins. Your guide will provide rich historical context
about the city’s past and its significance in early Christianity.
Continue
your tour with a visit to the Temple of Artemis, once considered one of
the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Though only a single column
remains today, the temple’s legacy continues to capture the imagination of
history lovers and spiritual travelers alike.
You will
also visit the House of the Virgin Mary, located on the slopes of Mount
Koressos. This modest stone house is believed to be the final residence of Mary,
the mother of Jesus, and is now a place of pilgrimage for Christians and
Muslims alike. The site is tranquil and spiritual, surrounded by pine trees and
offering a peaceful contrast to the grandeur of ancient Ephesus.
The tour
continues with a visit to the Basilica of St. John, built over the
believed burial site of St. John the Apostle, who is said to have spent
his last years in the region. The basilica stands as a powerful testimony to
early Christianity and the role this region played in its spread.
After an
enriching day of historical and spiritual exploration, your tour will conclude
around 16:00 PM. You will then be transferred back to Izmir Airport
for your evening flight to Istanbul, typically departing between 19:00 and
22:00. Upon arrival in Istanbul, a representative will meet you at the
airport and transfer you back to your hotel, completing your seamless and
memorable day trip.
