Turkish cuisine is one of the most varied in the world. It is considered the third richest cuisine after French and Chinese gastronomy. However, in the West, this cuisine is not recognized enough, as it is often limited to the Döner Kebab! Turkey is a crossroads between Europe, Asia, and the Orient. This unique location combined with the migration of Turks from Central Asia to Europe has shaped the identity of its gastronomy over the centuries. Because of six centuries of Ottoman regional domination and the reciprocal influence between Turkey and its neighboring countries (Greece, Bulgaria, The Balkans, Irak, Syria Iran, Armenia…) is the reason why we find so many common dishes in those cuisines such as dolma, börek, kebab, mantı (Turkish ravioli), and so on.

Your day begins with a pick-up from your hotel, followed by a short drive to a local restaurant where you will take part in a professional Hakkari cooking lesson led by experienced local chefs.
During the class, you will learn to prepare a selection of traditional regional dishes. Gulul Soup, a local yogurt-based soup made with green lentils and hand-cut dough, offers a comforting and authentic taste of Hakkari cuisine. You will also discover Finger Kebab, a specialty from the Yüksekova region, featuring finger-shaped eggplant seasoned with a rich blend of spices.
Another local favorite, Jajik, is prepared with yogurt, grated cucumber, and garlic, creating a refreshing and flavorful dish commonly enjoyed in the city. You will also be introduced to Cabbage Pickle Soup, a unique regional specialty made from finely chopped pickled cabbage.
For a hearty and satisfying main dish, Chevirmeli Pilav is highly recommended. This traditional rice dish is prepared by layering bird meat and seasonal vegetables at the base of the pot, topped with roasted rice, resulting in a rich and aromatic flavor.
To complete the culinary experience, enjoy Çukurca Tahin Dessert, made from sesame seeds grown in the Çukurca region, slowly roasted and ground into tahini, giving it a distinctive and memorable taste.
After enjoying lunch featuring the dishes you’ve prepared, continue to Hakkari city center for free time and shopping. Browse local shops for regional products and souvenirs before returning to your hotel.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
