Our tour will begin with a visit to the Mount Pagus, also known as Kadifekale Citadel. It is located on Pagos Hill, at an altitude of 186 m hence offers a stunning view of the city.
Next, we will explore the Agora of Smyrna, which is a part of the ancient site of Smyrna and was originally built by the Greeks in the 4th century BC. Today the ruins of Faustina Gate, ancient street, North Stoa (Basilica), West Stoa, Ottoman-era Muslim graveyard, House of Sabbatai Zevi can be seen.
We will then take a leisurely walk through Kemeralti, one of the largest open bazaars in Turkey, and pass by the old synagogue street, the fish and vegetable bazaar, and finally reach the Hisaronu Mosque which is the largest and ostentatious mosque of the city.
Take a brief rest here. Then we will proceed to the Kizlaragasi Inn, an 18th-century building that houses local shops and beautiful handicrafts. A short walk to the Konak Clock Tower, the most iconic landmark of Izmir. After spending some time in the Clock Tower area and the nearby seafront, we will take a short drive to the Historical Elevator, where you can enjoy a lovely panoramic view of the city. Drop off to your hotel in Ayvalik.
