Divrigi Castle - It is a historic castle located in the Sivas region. It was one of the border posts between Byzantium and Iran in history. Divrigi castle was strategically important as a solid castle on a high hill on Calti stream, which is located today. Until recently, there was a small settlement just below the Divrigi castle. The people living in this place started to settle down the hill from time to time. Two gates were opened on the western side of the fortress walls. One is built entirely by the wall today. The other door to the south is partly ruined. Three-quarters of the height is filled with soil. This door reaches a very high door gap, which ultimately ends with a broken arch. The earliest settlement in and around Divrigi goes back to the Hittites Period. The area was built by Ahmet Sah and his wife Turan Melek in 1228-1229 during the period under the management of Mengucekogulları. This masterpiece of Islamic architecture consists of a mosque with two domed tombs and a hospital adjacent to it. Besides their architectural features, the buildings are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List with their rich Anatolian traditional stonework examples. Then we will continue to the Great Mosque and Hospital of Divrigi, The mosque has a single prayer room and is crowned by two cupolas. The highly sophisticated technique of vault construction, and a creative, exuberant type of decorative sculpture – particularly on the three doorways, in contrast to the unadorned walls of the interior – are the unique features of this masterpiece of Islamic architecture. Around 17:00 – 18.00, we will depart back to your hotel.
