Tour Overview

Elephants of Sri Lanka Wildlife Adventure the Sri Lankan elephant (Elephas maximus maximus) is one of three recognized subspecies of the Asian elephant and is native to Sri Lanka. Sadly, since 1986, it has been listed as endangered by the IUCN, with populations declining by nearly 50% over the last 60–75 years due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and human–wildlife conflict.

Today, Sri Lanka still boasts the highest density of elephants in Asia, offering an incredible opportunity for travelers to observe these majestic animals in their natural habitats. The elephants are mainly found in the dry zones of the north, east, and southeast of the island. Key national parks such as Udawalawe, Yala, Lunugamvehera, Wilpattu, and Minneriya serve as their strongholds, though elephants also roam freely outside protected areas.

This special 15-day journey invites you to explore Sri Lanka’s wild landscapes, cultural heritage, and elephant-rich national parks, while also highlighting local conservation efforts.

Perched on crossbars tied to slender poles embedded in the seabed, these fishermen spend hours balanced in the water, casting lines in hopes of catching small fish. This traditional fishing method, believed to have emerged shortly after World War II, remains a powerful symbol of resilience, having survived the devastations of the 2004 tsunami. Today, these skilled fishermen can still be seen along the southern coast in places like Koggala, Kaththaluwa, and Ahangama, offering a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s enduring cultural heritage.

During your seaside adventures, you may also spot flying fish, sea turtles, manta rays, and occasionally even reef sharks gliding through the clear blue waters. Whale watching season runs from November to April, making this a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
