Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival at the Kotoka International airport, a representative of Blastours will meet group for a hotel transfer. Overnight stay at a boutique hotel in Accra 

Day 2

Start the day with a drive by the Osu Castle (Christiansborg), which was originally built by the Danes to the Independence square. Continue to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum (the final resting place of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President). Thence to Jamestown, the ‘original Accra’ with its old streets, 19th century lighthouse, Dutch built Ussher Fort and James Fort. End the day at the Dubois Centre for Pan Africanism. Day 3

Set off for the Ashanti Region with a stopover at the Asante Traditional Buildings including the Asemaso Traditional Shrine. Continue to the Manhyia Palace, seat of the Ashanti Kingdom. End the day at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, which offers a good account of the rich Ghanaian culture, provides evidence of the Ashanti Kingdom's eminent past. It houses the Prempeh II Jubilee museum, which provides a fascinating collection of Asante’s history. Overnight stay at a boutique hotel in Kumasi (B/L)

Day 4

Start the day with a visit to the Kejetia Market, the largest open-air market in West Africa. Continue trip to the crafts villages of Ntonso, famous for adinkra design and Ahwiaa for carving. Also visit the village of Adanwomase (Kente) to interact with locals and to learn traditional skills like kente weaving, palmwine tapping, farming. Visit an Orphanage to meet children for an interaction, and also to make a presentation of gifts. Overnight stay at a boutique hotel in Kumasi (B/L) 

Day 5

Set off for the Central Region with a stopover at Assin Manso, where slaves were kept, had a last bath in the "Donko Nsuo" before shipment to the New World. On arrival, we visit the Cape Coast Castle, declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site and its West African Historical Museum. Take a walk through the colonial city to experience the present day way of life. Spend the night at a Beach Resort in Elmina (B/L)

Day 6

Set off in the early morning to the Kakum National Park, which comprises of undisturbed virgin rainforest to experience a walking tour on the longest and highest canopy walkway in West Africa. Also stopover at a rubber and oil palm plantation and a local factory to witness work in progress. In the afternoon, we create several West African traditional dishes in Esi’s kitchen and then enjoy eating the feast. Spend the night at a beach resort in Elmina (B/L)

Day 7

Start the day with a visit to the Elmina Castle overlooking the nearby Fort Jago, for an insight into the history of slavery. Take a walk through the Elmina township and fish market to view some homes built in colonial style and also to experience the lifestyle of the Fantis. Set off for Accra along a coastline marked with and forts and castles. Including brief stops at Fort William on the summit of a hill in Anomabo, the ancestral home of Louis Armstrong. Also stopover at Fantasy Coffin Makers, where coffins are made to reflect a person’s affiliation. Spend the night at a boutique Hotel in Accra (B)

Day 8

Start the day with a walking tour through the suburb of Nima to see the other side of Accra. Here we’ll meet some local families and witness their way of life including a visit to a school. Continue the day with last minute shopping at the Arts Centre for National Culture, Woodin, Wild Gecko Handicrafts shop. In the late afternoon, we check into airport for departure. No overnight stay (B)
