After leaving Tirana at 07:00am we will head toward the South of Albania when we will be introduced to 1 UNESCO Heritage Museum city.
Tour in Gjirokaster starts in the city center in one of the most important city squares. Wondering through the antiques and handmade products in the Bazaar we will make our you toward the Castle of Gjirokaster.
Build centuries ago, and later restored at the beginning of the 19th century, this Castle held remarkable values.
A symbol of resilience, known different as Argjiro's Castle, the legend of castle tells of Princess Argjiro, who ruled Gjirokastra during medieval times. When Ottoman invading forces approached, she chose to leap from the castle walls with her infant rather than surrender, turning her story into a symbol of courage and sacrifice. Locals say the rocks below still carry her name, keeping her spirit alive in the city’s memory.
After the castle exploration, we will head down to the city. In addition, we will pass through the “Palorto Neighborhood”. It is probably the most well-known part of the city because of the 2 notable persons.
Not far from each other are situated in the house of Enver Hoxha and Ismail Kadare.
The first is known as the post-WWII, communist dictator and the second as the most translated Albanian Writer, candidate for Nobel.
Lunch stop and we continue to the outskirts of city , and spend 1h in the Blue Eye spring.
18.00-21.00pm Leaving behind the stone city, we will head back to Tirana. It will be a comfortable, 3 hours journey with stops in between.
