Godawari to Phulchoki is one of the popular hiking destinations in the Kathmandu Valley. Located in the southern part of Lalitpur district the region has deep wilderness having rich wildlife and a splendid environment. Godawari is famous for its botanical garden and ancient temple of Godawari. The Phulchoki nestled at 2782 meters is the highest hill in the valley. In addition, it is one of the most beautiful hiking sites in terms of vegetation in Kathmandu valley.
Phulchoki means the ‘Hill of Flowers’. The region is covered by a wide variety of woodlands including Rhododendrons of different species from white to dark red. Apart from the vegetation the region is home to vast species of wildlife.
A 14 km ride from Kathmandu takes you towards Godawari. Upon reaching Godawari head towards The National Botanical Garden. Here witness various species of native flora. After exploring the botanical garden start the hike. Traversing gradually uphill, through subtropical thick forest with miles of undergrowth reach the summit. The hike usually takes around 4-5 hours. From the summit witness grand views of the Kathmandu valley and the lush hills of the Mahabharat range. The valley down surrounded by hills like a bowl on the backdrop of the Himalayas. Catch views of the central Himalayan peaks of Jugal Himal, Gaurishankar, and Mt. Everest.
Here, have your lunch with the grand views of the landscape and after exploring the region, retrace your steps back to Godawari. The hike takes around a couple of hours. Upon reaching Godawari head back towards your accommodation.

Drive to Godawari and From Godawari, we start our hiking trip! Mostly gradually uphill, we walk all the way through subtropical thick forest for about four hours. Finally, reaching Phulchowki, the magnificent view from the eastern part of the Annapurna range to Gaurishanker unfolds in front of us on a clear day. Moreover, the breathtaking view of Kathmandu valley invites you to take many pictures. After lunch and strolling around from some time, we hike down following the same trail to Godavari for about 2 hours and drive back to Kathmandu.
