Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
Arrive in Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (time to be advised). Meet and assist by our airport representative and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park heading straight for a game drive to the world famous haunt for pink flamingos, is a shallow alkaline lake in Kenya's Rift Valley and some 62 km2 in extent. The road from Nairobi to Nakuru passes down the Kikuyu escarpment with fine views of the Kedong Valley and Mounts Suswa and Longonot. The landscape is picturesque, areas of sedge, marsh and grasslands alternating with rocky cliffs and outcrop. In late 80's the park also became Kenya's first rhino sanctuary and is today home to both the White and Black Rhinos. Lions, leopards, hippos, giraffes, waterbucks are equally at home in this unique park.
Overnight: Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge
Meals - Breakfast in Nairobi (pay directly); Lunch and Dinner in Nakuru
This morning we shall drive to Masai Mara Game Reserve. Arrive and have lunch before embarking for an afternoon game drive. The jewel in Africa’s crown, Masai Mara, is host to the most spectacular array of wildlife such as Lions, elephant, Cheetah, leopard, Rhinos, giraffe, gazelle, and zebras among others. Game viewing is never dull in the Mara and patience is often rewarded with unique sightings: a pride of lion stalking their prey; a solitary leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an acacia tree; a male wildebeest sparring to attract females into their harem; a herd of elephant protecting their young from opportunistic predators.
Overnight: Sentrim Mara Lodge
Meals - Breakfast in Nakuru; Lunch and Dinner in Maasai Mara
We’ll be up early to view the park’s abundant wildlife, said to the
densest of any park in the region. This will be a day of unlimited game drives
over the golden fields and past the distinctive acacia trees adorning these
plains.
Be on the lookout for Africa’s Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant,
buffalo, and rhino. The birdlife is also abundant, and should you be here
during the season of the Great Migration (July – October), prepare yourself to
witness the largest movement of animals on the planet.
Primarily made up of wildebeest and zebra, the migrating animals cross
into the park by the thousands at the Mara River, also the site of hippos and
waiting crocodiles. The potential drama here is inescapable as the streaming
herds enter these lands for fresh grasses as the predators lie in wait.
Adding more richness to your Masai Mara experience, you can enjoy an
optional visit to one of the local villages. There, you’ll meet the Maasai and
see their lifestyle up close.
Another optional event is an early morning hot air balloon ride over the
reserve. Take in the park below coming to life as the fields light up and the
wildlife begin a new day on the savannah. A magnificent experience – just
ask your driver/guide to set up either or both activities.
