Day 03 Negombo to Wilpattu via Anawilundawa – Wildlife & Wetlands Exploration
Start your day early from your hotel in Negombo, with pickup arranged based on your arrival time to ensure a smooth and comfortable start. En route to Wilpattu National Park, make a refreshing stop at the Anawilundawa Wetland Sanctuary, a peaceful and protected birdwatching haven known for its rich biodiversity and abundant waterfowl.
Spend some time exploring this serene sanctuary, spotting rare and migratory birds in their natural habitat — a perfect introduction to Sri Lanka’s incredible wildlife. Continue your journey to Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka’s largest and oldest national park, famous for its unique “villus” lakes and elusive wildlife including leopards, elephants, and sloth bears.

Located in the heart of the Cultural Triangle, Minneriya is best known for its incredible elephant population and the world-famous "Gathering" — a seasonal event where hundreds of wild elephants congregate near the ancient Minneriya Tank (reservoir). This protected area plays a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s dry-zone ecosystem and serves as a vital elephant migration corridor that connects Minneriya, Kaudulla, and Wasgamuwa National Parks.
Renowned for its lush dry-zone forest and open grasslands, Hurulu Eco Park offers an excellent opportunity to witness wild elephants in their natural habitat — especially during the dry season when they migrate from nearby national parks. Unlike Minneriya and Kaudulla, which can get busy during peak seasons, Hurulu Eco Park offers a quieter, more intimate safari experience. The park features dense dry evergreen forests, scattered open grasslands, and watering holes — ideal for wildlife viewing and photography.
