The Marangu Route on Mount Kilimanjaro is the ideal choice for trekkers who prefer not to camp, as it features comfortable huts along the way. Often called the "Coca-Cola Route," it is one of the most popular paths up the mountain, a name derived from the fact that Coca-Cola was once sold at all the huts.
Unlike other routes, Marangu follows the same trail for both ascent and descent, leading to higher traffic. Although the path has a relatively steady slope, the five-day climb presents challenges due to limited time for acclimatization, which contributes to lower success rates compared to longer routes.
The accessibility of Marangu makes it a common choice for first-time climbers, but it also attracts many unprepared and untrained tourists who often struggle with altitude and turn back before reaching Uhuru Peak.
Proper preparation is essential to increasing the chances of a successful summit. With the right planning, the Marangu Route can still offer an incredible journey to the roof of Africa.
