Are you looking for a quieter and less travelled destination in the Himalayan Mountains? This trek will take you through lush valleys, to high altitude alpine meadows, among dense forests, and across streams with waterfalls cascading down from above. You will be encircled by brilliant white snow-capped mountains that loom above you in every direction.
This trek is big on beauty in a remote region of Nepal where fewer tourists venture. You will enjoy the isolation in this culturally rich region that is abundant in natural beauty. You will follow off the beaten track trails on your way to Machapuchare Base Camp.
The Mardi Himal Trek begins in Nepal’s second largest city, Pokhara, which has Phewa Tal (Lake) as its focal point. The trail leads you through a rhododendron forest and alongside rivers. The trail descends to the Mardi Khola (river) and then climbs to the village of Phedi. The Mardi Himal trek offers amazing views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South (7219m), Mt. Himalchuli (7893m) and Mt. Machapuchare (6993m - Fish Tail) and Mardi Himal (5587m).
Trekking to Mardi Himal is suitable for all ages and is for anyone with an average level of fitness. Climbing up from the valley floor will get your lungs working but the surrounding beauty will well definitely make up for it and be a welcome diversion. We guarantee you will enjoy the remoteness on this unusual trek to an area of Nepal that is off the regular trekking trails. You will appreciate the magnificent sunrise and sunset panoramic views from Mardi Himal High Camp.
Sherp Expedition Teams will take care of all permits, meals and accommodation on the trek.

On your arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by a representative of Sherpa Expedition Teams and taken to your hotel in Thamel, the main tourist hub of Kathmandu. After checking in at your hotel you will be briefed on what to expect on your Mardi Himal trekking adventure and in the evening will enjoy dinner at a local Nepali restaurant together with a cultural show and dance.
Our journey begins with a 6 to 7 hour road trip to Pokhara Valley and its impressive Phewa Tal (lake) and then checking in to your hotel close to Phewa Tal. There is plenty to keep occupy your time along Lakeside with its many shops, bars and restaurants. Watching the sunset over the lake is a fantastic way to end the day. (Option: fly to Pokhara on a 30 minute scenic flight)
This morning we drive to Kande not too far from Pokhara from where we have views of the Himalayan Mountains. At this point we begin trekking to Pothana and then to Deurali where we will stay overnight.
Today we follow a trail that is mostly through oak, maple, and rhododendron forests. It will take us around three hours to reach Forest Camp with just a few places to stay. At Low Camp we have views of Machhapuchare. Low Camp has two or three cabins for trekkers to stay at overnight.
An early start today takes us to the highest point on this trek which will assist you to get accustomed to the higher altitudes. The imposing peaks appear close enough to reach out and touch. The colossal face of the mountain is an indication of the size of Mardi Himal (5587m). We will venture to higher altitudes during the day to get better views and appreciation of these colossal peaks before returning to High Camp in the evening.
This morning we will be up as the sun rises over the Himalayas. We will then have breakfast before climbing higher and closer to these enormous mountains. Himalayan pinnacles. The trail is moderately difficult and during summer this region is alive with yaks and sheep grazing the alpine pastures. There are also several yak herders’ huts along the trail. We will return to High Camp for the night.
This morning we head down to Landruk, a relatively large town that leads to Annapurna Base Camp. We will pass through Low Camp on the left look down at Landruk before descending through the peaceful forest until coming back to Landruk where we will stay overnight.
Today we descend to the Modi River and follow the trail along its banks as we head to Birethanti where the Modi Khola and Burundi Khola intersect. Not much further on from Birethanti we come to Nayapul where we are transported to Pokhara where we will stay overnight.
Today we go by road (or alternatively fly) back to Kathmandu. Tonight may be your last night in Nepal to enjoy our hospitality. You will have a fun night and dinner with us before you leave Nepal tomorrow. You will take home some warm memories of your time in Nepal. This is also an opportunity to say farewell to your guide and fellow trekkers.
