Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel in Arusha for an overnight stay. This bustling town at the foot of Mount Meru offers a peaceful start to your adventure.
Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore local markets or relax at your lodge. It’s a great time to rest, prepare your camera gear, and meet with your safari operator to go over the journey ahead. Enjoy a welcome dinner, get a good night’s rest, and prepare for your flight into the heart of Tanzania’s wildlife paradise the next morning.
After an early breakfast, transfer to Arusha Airport for your scenic flight to the Grumeti Airstrip in the Western Serengeti. Upon landing, your guide will greet you and transfer you to your lodge or luxury tented camp near the Kirawira area.
After lunch and some rest, head out for your first game drive across the golden plains of Grumeti, where elephants, giraffes, and wildebeest roam. Keep an eye out for big cats basking in the sun. The landscape here is stunning rolling savannahs dotted with acacia trees and bisected by the Grumeti River. Return to your lodge for a sunset dinner and an overnight stay.
Another full day dedicated to the migration in the Grumeti-Kirawira area. Today offers the opportunity to explore different vantage points along the river, increasing your chances of seeing large herds crossing. Mornings are active with movement and predator interactions, including crocodiles waiting in ambush. Expect lions, leopards, and hyenas to follow the chaos.
The open plains surrounding the river also support huge populations of zebra, gazelle, and buffalo. Between game drives, enjoy a lunch break at your camp and take time to relax. In the afternoon, revisit the riverbanks or explore a nearby kopje—a rocky outcrop that offers stunning views and possible sightings of lounging lions

After breakfast, depart the Western Serengeti on a leisurely game drive en route to the Central Serengeti, a journey filled with wildlife along the way. The terrain transitions from riverine forest to open savannah, increasing your chances of spotting cheetahs and other elusive animals.
Arrive in the Seronera Valley—known for year-round big cat sightings and resident herds. After lunch and check-in at your lodge or camp, set off on an afternoon game drive through this iconic area. With its permanent water sources, the Central Serengeti is teeming with wildlife throughout the year. As evening falls, enjoy a sundowner before heading back to your accommodation.
Depart early and drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend 600 meters into the world’s largest inactive volcanic caldera—the Ngorongoro Crater. Home to over 25,000 animals, this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers an unbeatable chance to spot all the Big Five in one place, including the rare black rhino.
The crater floor’s mix of forest, savannah, and soda lakes supports hippos, flamingos, and hyenas. After a picnic lunch, enjoy more wildlife sightings before heading back to your lodge on the crater rim or nearby. Spend your afternoon at leisure, enjoying optional activities like a cultural visit to a Maasai village or simply relaxing.
After breakfast and a relaxed morning, begin your journey back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport, depending on your departure plan. You may opt for a scenic domestic flight or a guided drive through Tanzania’s rural landscapes. If time allows, enjoy a final stop at local craft markets or a lunch spot in Arusha before your international flight.
Reflect on your week-long adventure through some of Africa’s most iconic landscapes—from thundering river crossings to peaceful crater views. Say farewell to your guide and the wild beauty of Tanzania, carrying with your unforgettable memories and photographs of the Great Migration.
