Anyone who has set foot in Greece has almost certainly experienced the iconic “souvlaki.” Widely regarded as the country’s quintessential street food and a symbol of its culinary identity, souvlaki is a delicious medley of tender, bite-sized pieces of meat—often accompanied by vegetables—grilled to perfection on a skewer. While it can be enjoyed straight off the skewer, fresh and sizzling, it is most commonly served wrapped in warm, soft pita bread. This modern presentation is typically enhanced with a squeeze of lemon, flavorful sauces such as tzatziki, fresh vegetables like tomato and onion, and, on occasion, a generous addition of crispy fried potatoes.
The art of crafting authentic souvlaki comes to life at the Mykonian Farm, where guests are warmly welcomed by the farm’s superintendent and immersed in a truly hands-on culinary experience. Upon arrival, participants are guided to a specially curated space within the farm, where they are introduced to the time-honored techniques behind Mykonos’ most beloved street food.
The experience unfolds step by step, from marinating the ingredients and carefully skewering the meat to preparing fresh vegetables through precise cutting and slicing. Guests will also enjoy a live demonstration of crafting the quintessential souvlaki accompaniment—tzatziki—learning the subtle details that elevate this classic sauce. Adding a playful twist, participants are invited to take part in a friendly tzatziki-making competition, aiming to create the most flavorful version.
The session culminates with the grilling of the meat and the assembly of each participant’s own souvlaki, wrapped in warm pita bread under the guidance of the head griller. Finally, guests sit down to savor their handmade creation, accompanied by a traditional Greek salad and a refreshing beer, completing an authentic and memorable gastronomic journey.
