Established on 30 June 1972, Udawalawe is an important protected area known for its natural beauty and biodiversity.

After the safari and lunch, visit the nearby Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home. Established in 1995 by the Department of Wildlife Conservation with support from the Born Free Foundation, this center plays a vital role in rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and injured elephant calves. Day 15 – Mirissa Beach

Sri Lanka is justifiably famous for its exquisite tropical coastline, where golden sands meet the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Today, unwind in the serene beauty of Mirissa, a tranquil beach destination perfect for relaxation after your journey.

Spend your day at leisure—bask under the sun on palm-fringed shores, take a refreshing dip in the ocean or pool, or simply relax to the soothing rhythm of the waves. For those seeking a touch of adventure, Mirissa offers one of the finest marine experiences in the world.

Set out on an exciting whale-watching excursion, where you may be fortunate to encounter majestic creatures such as Blue Whales—the largest animals on earth—along with Bryde’s Whales, Sperm Whales, Fin Whales, and even Orcas. The surrounding waters are also home to playful pods of dolphins, including Spinner, Bottlenose, Risso’s, and Striped dolphins, often seen leaping and dancing across the waves.

A short journey brings you to Weligama, renowned for its iconic stilt fishermen. Perched skillfully on slender wooden poles planted into the seabed, these fishermen practice one of Sri Lanka’s most unique and historic fishing traditions. Dating back to the period following World War II, stilt fishing remains a remarkable cultural sight along the southern coast, particularly in areas such as Koggala, Kaththaluwa, and Ahangama.

 Day 16 – Whale & Dolphin Watching | Transfer to Balapitiya

Day 17 – Transfer to Colombo

After breakfast, begin your journey towards Colombo, enjoying a scenic coastal drive along Sri Lanka’s beautiful southwestern shoreline.

En route, stop at Bentota, a destination rich in history and natural beauty. Bentota is mentioned in ancient Sinhala literary works such as Sandesha Kāvya and is home to the historic Galapatha Raja Maha Viharaya, one of the region’s ancient temples.

During the colonial era, the Portuguese constructed a small fortress known as Parangi Kotuwa at the mouth of the Bentota River. This site later evolved under Dutch and British influence, eventually becoming a resting place for colonial officers traveling between Galle and Colombo. The British further developed the area, introducing railway infrastructure and transforming Bentota into an important coastal stop.

Continue your journey to Colombo, Sri Lanka’s vibrant commercial capital. This bustling port city is a fascinating blend of old and new, where colonial architecture meets modern skyscrapers.
