Day 14 – Udawalawe
Early in the morning, depart from your hotel and travel to Udawalawe National Park for an exciting wildlife safari. This park is one of the best in Sri Lanka for spotting herds of wild elephants, along with a rich variety of flora, fauna, and water birds. Established on 30 June 1972, Udawalawe is an important protected area known for its natural beauty and biodiversity.
After the safari and lunch, visit the nearby Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home. Established in 1995 by the Department of Wildlife Conservation with support from the Born Free Foundation, this center plays a vital role in rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and injured elephant calves. Visitors can observe young elephants being fed milk (usually at scheduled feeding times), offering a unique and heartwarming experience.

Day 17 – Transfer to Colombo
After breakfast, begin your journey towards Colombo, enjoying a scenic coastal drive along Sri Lanka’s beautiful southwestern shoreline.
En route, stop at Bentota, a destination rich in history and natural beauty. Bentota is mentioned in ancient Sinhala literary works such as Sandesha Kāvya and is home to the historic Galapatha Raja Maha Viharaya, one of the region’s ancient temples.
During the colonial era, the Portuguese constructed a small fortress known as Parangi Kotuwa at the mouth of the Bentota River. This site later evolved under Dutch and British influence, eventually becoming a resting place for colonial officers traveling between Galle and Colombo. The British further developed the area, introducing railway infrastructure and transforming Bentota into an important coastal stop.
